Dr. Andrew Wedeman is one of the world's foremost authorities on corruption in China. For this talk, he will present finding from his acclaimed book "Double Paradox" which analyzes why the Chinese economy has continued to grow at a staggering rate even as corruption worsens. Using date from a wide range of sources, Wedeman argues that the Chinese paradox of growth with corruption is a combination of timing, the nature of economic reforms, and the Party's willingness to combat corruption.

This film was a surprise hit in China, outselling Avatar and Transformers 3.

Chinese New Year 2013 Banquet

Lunar New Year at Cafe 101

Chinese New Year is fast approaching and it is time again for our annual banquet and fundraiser. This year's banquet will be held at Cafe 101 and hosted by our long time friend Michelle and her wonderful staff. The menu will include old favorites such as Lettuce Wraps, Gold Bars and Whole Steamed Fish as well as new delicacies including Braised Beef Shanks and and Pork with Preserved Vegetables with Buns. Peggy Roney will tell us about the Snake personalilty, and what to expect this upcoming year, and a Lion Dance will entertain. We will also be holding a fundraising auction this year so, please bring items if you would like to participate. Official reservation details for members will be mailed in the upcoming newsletter. Featuring the Music of Chinese American  Composer Lei Liang at Georgia State University

Bent Frequency will present a Chinese New Year concert featuring the music of award-winning Chinese-American composer Lei Liang on Saturday, February 9th at the Kopleff Recital Hall at Georgia State University.  Liang has received critical acclaim for his visionary works that fuse aspects of traditional Chinese with the sound world and aesthetic of a 21st Century musical language. This concert will feature his compositions and traditional music for the pipa. Free and open to the public.
